What are Dental Implants?
The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts which are inserted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts are then attached to the implant which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.
The Procedure
Dental implants are the only solution that closely mimics the design of a tooth by replacing the root with an implant and crown with porcelain. To receive dental implants, you will need to make an appointment for a consult with Dr Shieh. He will take radiographs and measurements to determine how much bone is available to hold the implant. If you are eligible, he will place the dental implants, one for each missing tooth or a few to anchor a bridge or denture, right here at our office. In some cases, Dr Shieh might give the implant and the crown the same day. With proper care and maintenance the implant tooth will last you a lifetime.
Dr Shieh, graduated from Boston University with a two year certificate specializing in Dental Implants. He uses the latest technology in placing dental implants.
